Postpartum Pelvic PT

A customized program to maximize your strength and recovery after childbirth.

Keywords: Diastasis Recti (DRA), Bowel/Bladder Leakage, SI Joint Pain, Back Pain, Pelvic Pressure/Prolapse

Service Description

The postpartum evaluation is an assessment of how changes during pregnancy and childbirth have impacted your body.

Pelvic PT can take place as early as 3 weeks following delivery, or at any point over the next year.

Some foundational goals of postpartum pelvic rehab are:

  • Restore connection to deep core & pelvic floor

  • Address posture and alignment

  • Resolve bowel or bladder leaks and pelvic pressure

No matter your method of delivery, we will help facilitate recovery. We can address C-section scars, episiotomy scars, or scars from tearing during delivery to optimize healing and get you started on restoring total body strength. Regardless of what issues are lingering following pregnancy, labor, and delivery, we have seen it all, so we are here for you.

  • Address pain symptoms present from pregnancy or delivery

  • Resolve Diastasis Recti (DRA)

  • Build strength and endurance throughout the body.

Our Process

Full-Body Assessment/Treatment

Exercise & Movement Program

Internal Muscle Assessment

The V Boutiq Plan

We will start with a thorough review of your medical history, labor and delivery experience, and your postpartum wellness goals. Then, we identify and treat back & pelvic alignment issues, strength imbalances, and muscle tightness through a full-body assessment.

Our hands-on treatments release tight tissues, mobilize joints, and enhance recovery from labor and delivery. We specialize in myofascial release and joint mobilization in all regions of the body. We also perform trigger point dry needling, cupping, and scar mobilization.

It can be difficult to determine what movements are safe week-to-week postpartum. We offer a tailored re-strengthening program that reconnects you to the muscles most affected by pregnancy. You will start to restore foundational strength as we also ensure that you are able to perform more functional strength and mobility task (i.e. squat, lunge, lift, carry) safetly.

We may decide to perform an internal vaginal assessment of your pelvic floor muscles. We use a single, gloved index finger to gently assess the tone, strength, and pain in the muscles of your pelvic floor.  We can also assess scar tissue and coccyx (tailbone) condition with an internal assessment. This can be valuable in making sure your pelvic floor is ready for vaginal delivery.

Whether you are 3 weeks or 3 years postpartum, so we customize your plan based on you! With a V Boutiq Bundle, we create a progressive program to scale up your strength gains and address tension, pain, or leakage over the course of a few visits. If you only plan for 1 visit, we provide you with a foundational program with some guidance for progression on your own.
